Abstract: A group is called Jordan if each of its finite subgroup has an abelian subgroup of bounded index. In this talk, we survey recent advances in the study of Jordan property of birational automorphism groups of algebraic varieties. With the help of boundedness of Fano varieties, we will discuss an application to rationality question.
